Alex Trotter

NameAlex TrotterDescriptionAlex Trotter was the most prolific photographer in the cities history.

In a career spanning 6 decades, and starting in the 1930’s, Alex undertook “stringer” work for various newspapers and in his own words, he “photographed everything from post-mortems to royalty.”

He is best known as a freelance photographer who worked for the Townsville Bulletin, however less known was his work as a crime scene photographer for the police.

His work with the police took him to some of the most gruesome sights in the city's history, some like the Mackay sister murders stayed with him for the rest of his life.

In 2008 Alex Trotter made a generous donation to the people of Townsville, gifting his life's work of photographs and negatives to the Local History Collection to be shared and preserved for future generations.
