Manton
DESCRIPTION
NameMantonDescriptionManton is found within the suburb of Woodstock. Mostly known for the Manton cemetery and Manton School, it is also commonly known as the home and the resting place of Charles Wallace Wordsworth who took up the run of Springvale in Manton before being the chairman of the Thuringowa Shire Council for 18 years.
The Manton School, located on the opposite side of the railway line. Was petitioned for in May 1902 which was approved in December 1902. Following several temporary closures between 1920 and 1934, the school permanently closed in 1946.
Manton Cemetery was established in 1902 on 5 acres of land. 13 Manton’ Cemetery Road, Calcium. The cemetery has been referred to as having significance for demonstrating the historical development of the Manton/Woodstock area.
