He attended school at Brisbane Grammar School & Hobart High School where afterwards he returned to Queensland.
He enlisted in the Queensland Mounted Infantry in 1890, during this year he was appointed lieutenant on June 11.
In September of 1897, he arrived in India in which he was attached to the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders. Robert returned to Australia in 1898.
He was promoted to Captain on March 20, 1900 and awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1918.
He also received Chevalier Leopold II (Belgium) and the 1935 Jubilee medal.
In 1936, Robert was the president of the ‘Old Gordons’ association in Johannesburg, which formed on October 10, 1936.Place of BirthTownsville, QLD
