NameKirwan FamilyDescriptionDaniel Joseph Kirwan (Joe) was born in Mossman in March 1907 and died in 1960. Siblings were Redmond, Phyllis and Theresa. Joe married Jean on 14 November 1938.

The suburb of Kirwan is named after Joe who subdivided the land for residential development. In 1950 he purchased 97 acres 9 perches of land in the area that is now the corner of Ross River Road and Bamford Lane. The land was part of portion 63 that bounded Ross River and had been held by the Gleeson family since the late nineteenth century. In 1959 he subdivided the land which became the first residential subdivision in Kirwan.
