North Queensland Television Collection
DESCRIPTION
NameNorth Queensland Television Collection DescriptionThe North Queensland Television Collection is a nationally significant archive of regional broadcast material dating from the 1960’s to the end of 2010’s.
Bringing to life moving capture materials for the first time in our history, regional Queensland television allowed residents to seem themselves and their environment represented in news and entertainment.
Sadly for most regional areas in Australia this history has all but been lost, with regional archives denigrated to refuse tips around the country as forced amalgamation killed regional television production.
The Collection was instigated by the donation of the former Telecasters North Queensland archive in 2017 by the former station owners, the Gleeson family.
The Gleeson donation spurred a movement that was joined by the Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Media Association, Southern Cross Austerio along with many independent producers. Their gift of copyright permission equates to an open sharing of their life’s work, all for the community good.
ContentDigitised Facsimiles representing working television and film production.
Items in this collection are representative of the physical mediums received at donation without alteration and editing.
Original content spans moving picture technology from 1960s - 2010s.
DateBetween 1st November 1962 and 15th August 2003
