Name Stuart Creek DescriptionOriginally noted as 'Stewarts' Creek the spelling was changed in February of 1939 to 'Stuart' Creek. The original spelling is thought to have been a clerical error as both the Creek and Suburb of Stuart were locally known to have been named for the surveyor Clarendon Stuart who surveyed the region of Townsville in 1865. According to the Queensland Department of Environment Stuart Creek, which forms a part of the Ross River basin is the "last freshwater system that retains open estuarine connections and is an important migratory estuarine breeding and nursery area for fish"
