Mr Rossiter's active participation in local and regional politics began early with his tenacious campaigning for the construction of a dam on the Burdekin River.
Rossiter was a staunch supporter for the construction of the dam and his personal connection with the region ensured his fight endured for 50 years. The official opening of Queensland’s largest dam in 1988 was hailed as an ‘achievement of national importance’.
A dedicated father of three, he also contributed many hours supporting local sporting clubs, Gardens Swimming Club and the Picnic Bay and Arcadian Surf Lifesaving Clubs.
