NameJohn Henry TyackDescriptionJohn Henry Tyack was born in Falmouth, England in 1860. He died in Townsville in 1913 and is buried in the West End cemetry. Tyack arrived in Queensland in 1881 and was employed by Samuel Allen & Sons in Charters Towers. There he married Jessie Fraser in 1898 and their son, Sydney was born in 1897. Sydney was killed in France in WWI; Tyack Street in Rosslea is named in honour of their him.
He came to Townsville in 1899 and purchased the Queen's Hotel on the Strand. Tyack was elected to Council in 1906 and became Mayor in 1912. He was responsible for erecting the Memorial Bandstand in Strand Park in 1913. Place of BirthFalmouth, England
